Today, we had a professional band come into school so we could practice filming live performance, in preparation for the next few weeks.
The Strangers are an up-coming three piece indie band, containing a pianist, drummer and singer. They have three main songs ; it was a sin, chaos and if I found love. Our group selected one of these songs to create a short performance clip to.
I learnt a fair amount from this, principally about what looks good on film and what doesn't work so well, it also made me look at the performance side more creatively than before; encouraging me to experiment with different shot lengths and types whilst teaching me that it's best to get as many shots as you can. then you have a wider scope when it comes to post-production. It was also important to realise the amount of prepation that was needed just for a simple long shot and how, in reality, post-production and planning should last the longest, not filming. It was quite difficult to predict the movements of the band, however, my storyboard eliminates this issue.
All in all, it was a useful exercise to have done, and will hopefully really help me get some good performance shots for my final piece. Next lesson, our group will be editing our performance shots to their song 'It Was A Sin' (below).
